Back To Uni

Today I went back to school, well Uni at least to give a careers speech to 2nd year students on my career to date! Quite a bizarre experience thinking back on what I have achieved since i left uni, 7 years ago! I was also quite sad when i realised it had been that long. It’s funny when you actually look back on where you started and it makes you realise how much you have achieved. It is both humbling and motivating to keep on working, tirelessly, to achieve all my dreams.

I was the 3rd and final speaker today and after I sped read, I was quite nervous at the thought of speaking to 140 students and was slightly relieved when they all didn’t turn up. I showed them examples of my styling work and vintage boutique website there was a chance to ask us all some questions.

It was an honour to be asked to take part in today’s event and it made me think about how much I would have enjoyed this session when I was at uni. When I graduated I felt lost and frustrated all at the same time. I knew I wanted to be a stylist, that I would relocate anywhere for the right job & that I would try my hardest but the biggest hurdle I faced was where to start! Naturally I decided to go travelling, why not hey I was young, free and loved travelling. After a year on the road my career really began.

Why? The Gold Label Has Launched!!

DVF Silk Wrap Dress, Ada's Attic Vintage Gold Label

DVF Silk Wrap Dress

The wait is over and the launch was a success! (phew) The newly launched Gold Label on Ada’s Attic Vintage on the 25/09/15 went swimmingly with only a minor hiccup! Not properly tagging the items show they didn’t show up in the Gold Label collection was not my finest hour!

I don’t want to just say “yey its launched its the best blah blah blah”, lets face it we get told everything is the best all day long and I close my ears and don’t listen. I wanted to tell you WHY.

Someone asked me the other day, “Why do you sell Vintage clothes? Why do you wear vintage clothes when you can just buy of the high street? Why do decorate & fill your house with vintage furniture, bedding & Nik Naks? And why do you call it vintage when it isn’t it just second hand?

60s Boho Midi Dress

For a minute or two I was silent, Why I thought Why? And then it dawned on me, I wear vintage clothes because I love the quality, uniqueness and history of each piece. I feel excited to wear a dress, jacket, top (you name it) that has had a history, had a life and is still looking in great. I love fashion, always have and always will and I’m intrigued how technology has changed not just the way we dress but how we see fashion now and how its made. I love how decades can be defined by styles and how they relate to what people were thinking, feeling, wanting to express and share with the world. Why they choose to show their beliefs through how they dressed. How even though I wasn’t there I can feel like I was though the clothing, furniture, nic-naks etc. How vintage clothing is a part of OUR history, Our parents, grandparents, great grandparents lives and how it has shaped our lives. That’s Why. Continue reading

Spring Forward 2015 Fashion Trends

From bold colours, novelty prints and accessories there is a lot to love this season.

THE 70’s
2015 take on the 70s
OOO the 70s the decade I should have been born in. If you feel the same as me and are loving the 70s trend this season then think wide brimmed flop hats, deep deep v neck tops, flared jeans and tasselled leather or suede jackets . To add the summer edge to this amazing trend wear your leather or suede in some sugary tones of lilac and pinks, soo pretty!

Denimania
Embellished Jeans

Think wide legged flares that start at the knee. Midi, mini or Maxi skirts & dress. Shirt dresses or just shirts and of course lets not forget the denim dungarees or jacket. White, bleached, contrasting, distressed, patched or mid wash denim all goes this season and the best thing about this trend? It will be around along time. So you can invest in this trend with ease.

Trainer Off
Dior Sequin Trainers

Heels are becoming something of a rarity when look around the city streets, with fashionable feet all wearing trainers, something i like to call a trainer off. With so much choice now for us to dither over, everything from Nike classics to Chanel tweed glittery number and Dior sequin floral ones we really just don’t think there is enough time to work our way through them all.

Glam Groupie
Glam Groupie

Being a fashion groupie has never been so cool. Think shaggy jackets, sky scraping platforms, ponchos, skinny scarves, slinky skimpy mini dresses, tassel’s and fringing galore. The only thing you will be saying is I’m with the band!

www.adasatticvintage.co.uk Launch

Ada’s Attic Vintage, is launching their very own brand shiny, sparkly new website on the #27thSeptember2014 at 7am GMT!

Why is this vintage boutique any different? Well first of all its mine 😉 and I have loved and worn vintage fashion before it even became main stream. I had a vision of being able to offer high quality, individual and wonderfully designed and made clothing to everyone. Fashion over the years has become diluted I feel and with awful humanitarian crimes so people can dress is low quality fast fashion, which they wear once or twice, is everything I hate about how the fashion industry has changed over the years.
Vintage fashion give Everyone the opportunity to dress is beautifully made high quality clothes, at prices that are normal cheaper than the high street. I key point and belief of mine and something I promise to commit too in my boutique.

Ada’s Attic Vintage will always;
Keep prices lower than high street equivalents.
Hand Pick all stock
Be the Vintage life style brand to go to, catering for Men, Women, Children & Home.
Continue to wear and enjoy the beauty of vintage.

Eye, Eye

Now I am not a dab hand a make-up and tend to go for the “less is more look” but with a wedding at the weekend I thought id see how the pros spruce themselves up.
I still want to look natural so I am drawn to the light, glittery eye shadow trend that was shown on the spring runways.

Dolce & Gabbana

Gold is a frequent theme in Dolce & Gabbana’s Sicily-themed collections and for spring/summer 2014, Pat McGrath picked up on the hue with a subtle wash of shadows from the brand’s Smooth Eye Colour Quads in Golds and Desert across the lids.

3.1 Philip Lim

At first glance, Nars’s Duo Eyeshadow in Iceland looks like a palette of two identical shades of white, but on the skin they appear prettily sheer – one with a pale green tint and the other a pearly blue. At the 3.1 Phillip Lim show, make-up artist Francelle Daly used the latter for a cool-toned take on illuminated eyes.

Valentino

Pat McGrath dabbed a pale highlighter at the inner corners of the eyes at Valentino, where the entire beauty look was based upon the play or light upon the face.

MaxMara

The ethereally pretty eye make-up at MaxMara was created by Tom Pecheux, who applied MAC Sparkle Shadow in Tender Moon all the way from the lashes into the brows. A perfect make-up look for a night out or if you with the bride i think, so pretty yet understated.

Gianfranco Ferre

A warm, coppery-gold hue is ideal to highlight a summer tan – as swept across models’ lids at Gianfranco Ferre. A look that is so simple yet effective.

What I love most about this make-up trend is that anyone, even of my make-up “ability” could achieve a look inspired by these beautiful examples. And without having to spend a lot of time or money, my kind of make-up. I will post my examples asap.

Z is For Zimmermann

Zimmermann Autumn Winter 201-15

For my finale in my A-Z of designers to know in 2014 I bring your Zimmermanns’ Autumn Winter 2014-15 collection. This collection transforms from soft and warm to hard and gothic. With a varied colour palette of teal, red, monotone and metallic. Oversized silhouettes, fully flirt, yet somehow masculine overall feel, skirts, full length to mini to fitted and structured. Zimmermann not only clashes prints and colours they have also clashed fabrics by using mohair, lace, leather, satin, silk, netting and dog tooth.

Zimmermann Autumn Winter 201-15
Zimmermann Autumn Winter 201-15
I love this collection and as soon as I saw it I struck accord with me as I could see 2014’s version of the 50’s and 70’s fashion, the formalness about the styling slicked back hair, pointed shoes with socks and fitted and structured silhouettes. Full skirts and loose layered and clashing fabrics echo the 70’s fashion trends.
Zimmermann Autumn Winter 201-15

A “Glam Goth” look will be a key trend for festive parties this year… (Sorry but I didnt say the C word)

Zimmermann Autumn Winter 201-15
This collection feels more Autumnal & wintery than other that I have featured but with the very wearable fresher pieces, teal knitwear & bold oversized printed coat, could see this collection carried through into spring summer 2015. Now I like the sound of that!
