Elvis & Kress Ethical Fashion

Every now and again I, happily, stumble upon a brand that really does break the mould. Elvis and Kress offer high end luxury bags, Ipad cases & accessories made from high quality material that has been aged over periods off up to 30years. To make this all sound even better all the material is recycled!! Yep they make all of their products from reclaimed fire hoses, destined for the landfill, reclaimed coffee sacks & reclaimed military parachute silk lining, (anyone who played the parachute game when they were a kid when you threw it up and ran under it knows how soft, delicate and beautiful the silk is).

Elvis & Kresse Overnight Bag

They have been using reclaimed fire hoses since 2005 and have already saved over 200 tonnes, of what I think is beautiful material, which has its own history, from going into our landfills.
Elvis & Kresse MacBook Sleeve- Perfect for Coffee lovers

Price point I think is very reasonable and I LOVE the MacBook sleeve. Bags are well designed and come in a variety of classic bag shapes that you will be proud to carry on your shoulder. Also how cool is their name!!

Fancy A Coffee?

Have you just woken up & blur eyed checking your emails, and my latest post, whilst drinking your 1st cup of coffee? Or are you feeling, slightly, guilty about buying a cup on the way to work? Well let me help wipe your conscious clean A Taiwanese company Singtex / S. Cafe is recycling used Coffee grounds and turning them into fabric for clothing! Using their patented process, the company recycles used coffee grounds into yarn, which is then made into durable and sustainable fabrics that resist odours and UV rays!
Feeling a bit better? Read on…

Scafe Material
As a caffeine and coffee-fuelled society, our addiction to Coffee yields a lot of waste. In 2008, approximately 7.6 million tons of Coffee were sold worldwide. That’s a lot of waste that usually ends up in our landfills. S. Café’s process spins the waste grounds into an odourless, fast drying fabric that also possesses UV shielding qualities.
S. Café’s process removes the phenols, esters and oils from the grounds, leaving them odourless, which they then turn into Soap! Making it a fully closed circuit with no waste. Roasted coffee has natural deodorising properties, so the fabric made from coffee yarn has great use in athletic wear, which is designed to soak up sweat. They also found that the coffee fibres are fast-drying and serve as a UV shield – all additional reasons why the fabric is the perfect match for athletic wear. So far the material has been used by The North Face, Nike, Timberland & Warcoal in Lingerie designs!

S-Cafe Material
Initially, research was conducted using used grounds from local cafes and friends. Now that the company has taken off, turnover for 2011 was £4.8 Million pounds, they have employed a coffee factory to supply more and more of the used grounds. S. Café extends the life of coffee in a totally usable way. Recycling an otherwise useless waste product has inspired the company to conduct further research, with hopes of extending the use of used coffee grounds to other products.
Coffee grounds can be used for everything from garden mulch to batteries to bio fuel — but nothing is more practical than recycling it into clothing. You can now feel less guilty when you treat yourself to your morning cup of coffee!

With a higher demand for more substainable fabrics and major players such as Nike and H&M signing up to eliminate hazardous chemicals from supply chains by 2020. So the fashion world means business. I have recently stumbled across a company called Paper No 9. Who create stunning “Green” Pleather by applying oil and fabric backing to paper. The results are outstanding! You would never believe that its paper.

Aswell as the founders of Paper no( creating beautiful accessories they have also recently colaborated with coture designer, Sylvia Heisel, who works with recycled brown paper. Together they have created the  “Ready To Wear Away Dress”. The designers claim that the dress feels like a “supple leather sheath” at first. Add body heat and movement and the paper starts to wear away. Then, walla, hand-drawn inspirational quotes from Ghandi to Tupac Shakur suddenly appear. It certainly makes for a good conversation piece.
